Being blessed with nervous energy and a naturally anxious disposition, I’ve never had to diet or pound the treadmills to retain a slender figure. When you don’t put on weight, the motivation to exercise is not that strong. However, just because you’re slim doesn’t mean you’re healthy, as I am now discovering.

Back in the day, my cardiovascular workouts were a by-product of hours spent dancing in sweaty northern clubs on a weekly basis. Now that my social life revolves around more sedate activities, I can hardly make it up a flight of stairs without needing oxygen.
